CheeWei's Short film "Not Your Average Neighbour" picks up 2 awards at the World Film Carnival

CheeWei's short documentary “Not Your Average Neighbour”, collected the “Outstanding Achievement Award” in the “Best Film Score” and “Best Documentary Film” categories at the recent World Film Carnival.

"Not Your Average Neighbour" explores the controversial world of graffiti and street art told through the perspective of Steve, a Melbournian street artist and a personal friend of CheeWei’s.

Steve shares his personal story of finding a place in the underground scene where public perception shifts between visual artistry and vandalism.

The win came as a total surprise to CheeWei and his team as Singapore being the host country of the festival, has strict laws treating underground street art as a criminal activity, which leads to massive fines or imprisonment not exceeding three years, and also mandatory corporal punishment of not less than three strokes and not more than eight strokes of the cane.

CheeWei would like to thank everyone involved in the project.
